The first image in a series series that explores the emotional and physical journey of waiting for transplant surgery.


As of February 18th, 2011, there are nearly 88,000 people waiting for kidney transplants in the United States alone. Of these, roughly 16,000 will actually receive transplants this year.

As of February 18th, 2011, there are nearly 16,860 people waiting for liver transplants in the United States alone. Of these, roughly 6,300 will actually receive transplants this year.

As of February 18th, 2011, there are nearly 1,400 people waiting for liver transplants in the United States alone. Of these, roughly 350 will actually receive transplants this year.
