Colorado Coral – Pt 2: How to create vector shapes from black and white images to cut out on a laser cutter

In Part 1 of this series, we learned how to create organic forms using Cinema 4D and X-Particles. In this segment, we will learn how to generate the vector files we need to cut the form out on a Glowforge laser cutter.

To do this, we will trace the shape in Adobe Photoshop and create paths using the ‘make workpath’ feature. Then we will set the cut file up using Adobe Illustrator. Glowforge likes to have a pdf file, so that is what we’ll focus on. From there, I will show you the setup and cutting process on the laser cutter. Let’s go!
